Care Instructions
Care Instructions — KN Crafted Wood
Thank you for your handcrafted wood piece! Wood is a natural material that responds to its environment, so a little care goes a long way in keeping your item beautiful for years to come. Please follow the guidance below based on your product type.
General Care (All Wood Products)
Avoid extreme temperatures and humidity — keep pieces away from direct sunlight, heating vents, radiators, and damp areas, which can cause warping, cracking, or fading.
Wipe up spills promptly with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Standing liquid can damage the finish and, over time, the wood itself.
Never soak in water or run through the dishwasher. Submerging wood causes warping and cracking.
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth to keep the surface clean.
Re-oil periodically (see below) to keep the wood conditioned and protected.
Cutting Boards & Charcuterie Boards
Hand wash only with warm water and mild soap immediately after use. Do not soak.
Dry standing up or on a rack right after washing — never leave flat in a puddle of water.
Oil monthly (or when the surface looks dry/pale) with food-grade mineral oil or a food-safe board conditioner. Apply a generous coat, let it sit for a few hours or overnight, then wipe off the excess.
Sanitize occasionally with a mix of water and a small amount of white vinegar or diluted hydrogen peroxide, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
Use both sides in rotation if your board is reversible, to keep wear even.
If the surface gets scratched or rough over time, a light sanding (fine-grit, 220+) followed by re-oiling will restore it.
Furniture (Tables, Shelves, Stands, etc.)
Use coasters and placemats under hot dishes, cups, and wet items to prevent water rings and heat marks.
Avoid dragging items across the surface — lift and place instead of sliding, to prevent scratches.
Dust with a soft cloth; for deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately.
Condition every 6–12 months with a furniture-grade wood oil or wax, depending on the finish used on your piece. Apply a thin coat with a soft cloth, let it absorb, and buff off any excess.
Keep out of direct sunlight for extended periods to prevent uneven fading.
Tighten hardware (screws, brackets) periodically if your piece has joinery or attached legs.
Home Decor & Signs
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth or a dry paintbrush for detailed/engraved areas.
Avoid hanging in bathrooms or other high-humidity areas unless the piece was specifically finished for that use — humidity can cause warping over time.
Keep out of direct, prolonged sunlight to preserve stain and paint color.
Spot clean only with a barely damp cloth; avoid soaking or scrubbing painted or engraved details.
A Note on Natural Wood
Because each piece is made from real wood, you may notice slight changes over time — subtle color deepening from light exposure, small movement with seasonal humidity changes, or grain characteristics becoming more visible. This is normal and part of what makes solid wood pieces unique and long-lasting when cared for properly.
